Fix subtitle encoding

Symbols in place of letters mean the file was saved in an old code page. Pick the reading that makes sense and save it as UTF-8.

Your file stays on your computer: it is read and changed in this browser tab and never uploaded.

or paste the text of the file

Why the letters break

Before UTF-8, every script had its own code page: Windows-1256 for Arabic and Persian, Windows-1251 for Russian, Windows-874 for Thai, GB18030 and Big5 for Chinese. A player that guesses the wrong one shows symbols instead of letters.

This tool reads the file in each likely code page, puts the most readable first, and saves the one you pick as UTF-8, which every modern player reads correctly.
