Tumbbad Movie Plot
We will divide Tumbbad movie’s story into 2 periods, “Sin by greed, death by sin” is the movie’s main concept. In the first period, we see a family in Tumbbad village in 1918, from where the family migrates. In the next period, we see that after 15 years, the main character of the movie “Vinayak” returns to Tumbbad village.
Now the question is, why Vinayak returns to Tumbbad, and what happens in Vinayak’s life after returning to Tumbbad? This movie is a wonderful creation. A beautiful combination of fantasy, horror, and drama is seen in this movie.
Tumbbad Movie Story Line
At the beginning of the film, we hear a story. Where we see a goddess who is the goddess of endless gold and food, Devi loved her elder son Hastar very much, but due to Hastar’s greed for Devi’s gold and food, the rest of the gods and goddesses attacked him.
The goddess saves Hastar on the condition that no one will worship Hastar. But, the people of Tumbbad village worshiped Hastar, and the other gods and goddesses got angry and cursed the village, which always rained on Tumbbad village.
Now we can see Vinayak’s family. Vinayak’s mother used to work in a big palace hoping for treasure. There was treasure hidden somewhere in the palace. No one knew where the treasure was hidden and what was the way to get it except one person, Vinayak’s grandmother. Many years ago, Vinayak’s grandmother tried to get the treasure, but she was cursed to become immortal due to not following the correct way to get the treasure.
After the death of the man named Sarkar, the sole owner of the palace, the last hope of finding the treasure was lost, so Vinayak’s mother decided to leave the village of Tumbbad.
Now we are shown the scene 15 years later, where Vinayak returns to Tumbbad village in search of Hastar’s treasure. He learns from his cursed grandmother how to get the treasure and where the treasure is. And after a lot of time and effort, he finally managed to get the treasure. He regularly unearthed small amounts of hidden treasure and sold it.
After getting the treasure, Vinayak gradually becomes rich; his life becomes very comfortable, and he gradually fulfills all his hobbies and lives like a king.
As time passes, Vinayak grows old, so Vinayak trains his son to mine the treasure in his way. When Vinayak’s son is fully prepared, Vinayak takes his son to that palace for treasure mining practice. While digging out the treasure, Vinayak’s son realizes that giving food to Hastar gets gold from him. But Vinayak took a certain amount of food every time and took out a certain amount of gold.
Vinayak’s son wants to bring all the gold from”Hastar” at once. So he offers his father Vinayak to carry more food for Hastar. Taking more food will give them a chance to bring home all of Hastar’s gold. Eager to get all the gold, Vinayak agrees to his son’s offer and prepares to carry more food to fetch the treasure later. When they are fully prepared, Vinayak and his son go to collect the treasure.
When they reach the place of the treasure and give food to the Hastar, they notice many Hastars surrounding them. They were not prepared for this situation. They understand the consequences of their greed. In the end, Vinayak sacrifices himself to save his son from Hastar, and Vinayak becomes cursed because whoever Hastar attacks is also cursed to become immortal.
Tumbbad Movie Review
Although the movie belongs to the horror category, there was no ghost or scary appearance in the movie from the beginning. But the screenplay of the movie was so creative that fear of the unknown will always work in us throughout the movie; a notable character in the movie is Vinayak’s grandmother.
From the movie’s beginning, he is confined in a closed room, but his terror among the family is presented so the audience will also get goosebumps.
The most shocking situation for the audience is when Vinayak’s grandmother is brought on screen for the first time. Again, the British period is presented in a very good way in the movie, which is commendable. Finally, the movie’s ending will present a twist sure to enthrall you.
